HAD TO LET THEM FLY

To be a mother – what a wonderful gift!
Each of my babies gave my life a fresh lift;
As I watched them mature my heart swelled with delight,
With Mommy they felt secure every day and every night;

I laughed at their antics, helped them learn from each blunder,
When they showed special talents, I was filled with wonder;
I felt sad as I watched them grow up way too fast,
Though I knew from the start their childhood wouldn’t last;

I couldn’t keep my chicks in the nest forever,
Wouldn’t clip their little wings to hold them back, no, never!
I gave them my very best – the experience was so thrilling,
I hope parenthood for them will be equally fulfilling.
