M's Poetry

Portrait

It's all gone yet this remains
you smile through the frame
yet now I know your pain
you left on a cold December night
you didn't want to fade
you just pushed yourself to the edge
well the rest is history
and now I am the one in this room
it's chilly and scary
my mind races a mile a minute
thinking what you had to go through
wishing it could have been me
maybe your fate would have turned out differently
maybe it all would equaled out with no change
now the portrait is lovely
it's my only reminder to a life I once had
it's my souvenir that I can't just leave behind
because in the picture I am somewhere there
not visible to the naked eye
but I know I am somewhere lost in your eyes,
hiding right behind your smile...
