 LIFE LINES

As You Leave

I want you to hurt
As much as I hurt,
I want you to writhe in pain.
I want you to feel
That your soul has been ripped out
Never to be whole again.

I want you to cry
All the tears that I've shed
Each time that you left me
Alone in my bed;
I want you to die
That slow death that one dies
When they know that the One
That they love has just lied.

Tell me again
How you'll love me forever,
Tell me again
How we'll be, you and me.
Tell me again
That you can't live without me,
Tell me again,
Once again, as you leave.

I want you to hurt
As much as I hurt,
I want you to writhe in pain.
Or if that's too much
For me to be asking
Then I ask you to leave
What little remains.

Leave me my soul,
Though there's not much to salvage;
Leave me to mourn
For the dream that has died.
Leave me alone--let me grieve,
Let me hide.
And this time,
Don't come back
Once you've said goodbye.
