SUMMER AFTERNOON
Only steaming maple leaves are moving--
Very slightly moving as if a mirage,
How sweltering is the heat of the
Very long Summer afternoon!
People and their dogs collapse in any
Hint of shade they find for relief--
How overwhelming is the sweltering
Heat of the Summer afternoon!
Yes, only leaves are shivering as the
Town waits for the cooling storms--
How welcome are the cooling storms
Of the long Summer afternoon!
