MY MONTH OF REAL SADNESS

Leering jack-o'-lanterns and dead Fall leaves,
Slow hangers-on still blow on their trees,
Another sad sigh of "wait till next year"
For the baseball teams no one will cheer.

High school bands march as their music plays,
Cool frost may start these shortened days,
Some sports fans bet for no good reason
Other than it's now the football season.

Fluffy red squirrels rush to bury a number
Of their acorns under grounds of umber;
Bikini swim suits are not now topical,
In late October, weather is not tropical!

For sad month of October, I've little to say
But that it is over after Halloween Day.
For lovely November I do always care,
When November comes, I'm glad it's there!
