Open it slowly:
this flaming box
this quiet
this night.
Unwrap the lethal
sky,
hear it calling
us to taste every
legend written
there
by stars
stirred in gently,
dusting eternity,
falling,
abandoning heaven,
finding a new
religion upon
our bodies.
In the liquid
darkness,
deeper than
the heart of
vengeance,
a craving moon
can only wonder
as we swallow stars,
rich skies,
the air between us,
the moon's jealous
powder upon us,
in this swirl of
hunger,
too much longing
whipped into a
thing of ever-growing
sweetness
we could die in
if this moment
didn't taste like
mist and shadow
and we weren't
sprinting like
youth inside
this one heart.
Rolling in
the brazen sugar
that holds us like
fear . . .
melting now,
black satin dripping,
my soul watches
from outside the
body,
circles us,
blesses us,
sees I am just a
sable drizzle
soaking up
brilliance,
mirroring the stars . . .
rising
falling
vanishing . . .
the night now empty
and full.
