Life's Canvas
Life is the canvas on which we've strewn
our childhood dreams, adolescent nightmares
late night schemes.
That first kiss, our prom dates smile
best friends and phone calls
and holding hands awhile.
The suspense in his eyes
as he asks "will you"
the tears in your own as you say "I do".
Your first home together
planting the first tree
the joy in your soul
that you'll soon be three.
All our years together, a grey hair or two
the smiles on our grandchildren
and growing old with you.
Life is so colorful, and when we're through
may we look back
and find a masterpiece.
