More Beautiful

Honey, you are beautiful...
more beautiful than a black eye
that you think you have to hide behind,
more beautiful than the jeans that
hide your shaking legs,
more beautiful than the pride
you swallow to keep on working
and hide from those who know you,
those who want to give you help
that you don't think you deserve.

You are more beautiful than a girl
who has to ask for money for shelter,
medication to ease the pain,
power to get away from him,
only to give in to self-doubt
and go home again, telling yourself
it's all your fault...

You are worth so much more than that.
Your kids are worth more than that.
I wanted to hold you today and
tell you all these things but I know
you would have panicked and ran...

I just hope someone can help you
to believe in your beauty before
your tiny face is framed on a lace
pillow in a casket and its too late.
You are better than that.
You are more beautiful than

death.
