Words of Life, Love and Praise
The Words
Oh the words, so hard to say
Though implied in every subtitle gesture -
This thing you do, right down to my soul.
Shall it be “We” in those years of gray and twilight?
Three little words, that's all they are,
I feel them across the miles that lay between us.
Yet these words I fight so hard to say,
Hover relentlessly behind these fingertips
As I attempt to still their spilling forth.
Must you plague me even as I slumber?
Never far from the eyes of this heart,
Every task, every thought, every hour…
Never has this soul endured such agonizing joy
Nor such pleasure in merest of thought.
For you and you alone have done this.
T'was easier for you than I, these words-
Yet I struggled against them so.
Such as these need come freely
In this place of unrest and loneliness-
So this I say for your heart alone
Yes...yes, I love you.
Though implied in every subtitle gesture -
This thing you do, right down to my soul.
Shall it be “We” in those years of gray and twilight?
Three little words, that's all they are,
I feel them across the miles that lay between us.
Yet these words I fight so hard to say,
Hover relentlessly behind these fingertips
As I attempt to still their spilling forth.
Must you plague me even as I slumber?
Never far from the eyes of this heart,
Every task, every thought, every hour…
Never has this soul endured such agonizing joy
Nor such pleasure in merest of thought.
For you and you alone have done this.
T'was easier for you than I, these words-
Yet I struggled against them so.
Such as these need come freely
In this place of unrest and loneliness-
So this I say for your heart alone
Yes...yes, I love you.
