The Burden of Love

The burden you bare is familiar to me.
It's causing us both pain.
That's easy to see.
Leaving was risky; a gamble at best.
The stakes are so high when you put love to the test.
I've taken comfort deep into the night
By holding you close;
Making love with no fight.
You've been my friend, my shelter from pain;
And it's a sure thing that I'll need you again.
I hope you find comfort in that I care;
That I love you truly;
For you, I'll always be near.
My love is no gamble.
It carries with it no stakes.
No rules and no promises to make or to break.
So if you find comfort for even just a short while
In hold my body, in seeing my smile,
Then call upon me.
I'll come to you again.
I'll love you so tender.
I'll be your comfort, your friend…
