 Musings by The Poet Loriet

Parrot Head (revised)

I read a poem
by a woman, about a man
she really couldn't talk to.
He made love
with a certain joi de vivre
but spoke "greeting card words."

How lucky she is,
that he held the power
of words, how she would miss
his Hallmark tongue
if it ever silenced,
I wanted to tell her
"keep him, eternally
next to an open golden cage"

She would hear him sing
tributes of love, as he perched
himself on her headboard
"You are my true north,
the perfect seashell
on an empty beach,
you are a child's  first
carousel ride on a painted pony"

Everyone loves a poet,
each girl I know
wants a man who believes in flattery.
We all love the whispered
words of love and they
never seem corny from
someone who holds our hearts.

I wanted to jump

into that paper-back-book and ask,
what precisely is wrong
with a greeting card man?
Open the golden cage and laern
about the beauty of winged words...

What a pretty pretty parrot
a man like that would make!

Oh, so pretty!
