Heart Of The Matter

Tribute

Today we talked about you,
The way you used to be,
We talked about the way you laughed,
So happy, so care free.

We talked about the way you gave,
To all who passed your way,
The constant retail therapy,
Just bought to give away.

You filled your life with gadgets,
Used once and tossed aside,
Today we laughed about it,
We laughed, and then we cried.

We spoke about you as a friend,
To all who were in need,
And how you made an impact,
By a simple word or deed.

We talked about the children,
You'd taken to your heart,
Now grown and all so grateful,
For giving them a start.

The many years of fostering,
Each child treated, as your own,
And though their lives were turbulent,
With you, they found a home.

We talked about the life you tried,
To very much sustain,
And how you could no longer cope,
In sickness and in pain.

We spoke about your funeral,
The crowds who gathered there,
And many just not realising,
How very much they cared.

We spoke of love,
And life and death,
Unreality and fear,
Today, we talked about you,
As if you still were here.
