Friday the 13th, 2004, Hurricane Charley ripped through Florida's door. Downed trees, lines and massive debris, I have never seen to such degree. Water, homes and electric were taken, leaving people to feel forsaken. Planes in hangers crushed like tin, laid out on runways where once they had been. Boats and yachts secured to their docks, laid in five foot piles amongst the rocks.
The destruction it caused made me pause to think, it will cost millions in reconstruction and ink. The worst in this state in nearly 40 years, I'm sure it brought back many a worry and fears. With 145 mile per hour winds, I can assure you there were no grins. Florida readied and prepared in wait as Charley came through and dealt us our fate. Category four almost a five, people are happy to be alive.
The aftermath is horrendous, but the people are tremendous. With cleanup and restoration well underway, helping hands are not far away. I know one day soon when all will be done, we will look up and see the sun.
