M's Poetry

Just Lipstick

Let me wipe this off
see it isn't me, take away all that covers
all that is left is the version I live with
I can doll it up and laugh with the best
but I am never the same girl you left
because underneath it all is a girl not really defined
an old soul in a young body before her time
it's just lipstick it washes away
see the hair spray just trying to impress
observe my manners well I try to do my best
but can you see me without the lipstick
the hair on a bad hair day
and yes I can be snappy
but I swear no one is all the time happy
those are the people that I think are really medicated
the real me in truth is actually quite boring
I literally wake my own self up snoring
nights on the weekend are spent at my small studio apartment
and I know it's weird and all but I really don't like shopping
so if I don't buy lipstick will you still notice?
maybe you haven't figured this but the other day
you actually met my representative
hey it's just lipstick!
my mask will come off when yours does
I'm sorry did you really think I thought that was really you?
