Upon the shadowed reach of Man
a silent song played best we can
Along the roads of centuries of dust
the forward progress of humanity a must.
A tiny star and flash of light
upon the horizon every night
A distant guide to lord knows where
to find a land of promise fair.
A drop of mercy upon their soul
to worship free and to feel whole
The place where equality sung
and a hard days work and all is done.
But, virtuous thought and noble deed
to subjugate and watch others bleed
Of black, red, yellow, or even white
to foment prejudice within equalities sight.
A civil war and marching women
a hanging gallows and a citizen prison
Of freedoms lost or never gain
a promise lost in the freedom taint.
Where is the promise for the hunted
also the persecuted and the unwanted
Where be the minds that embraced freedom
to see it lost in the name of greedy princedoms
I watch the masses neglect what they owe
to manage their country in the voting bestowed
With the elect corrupted in their sight and greed
will the dream come back in this sole time of need.
Down through the pages where all people are free
searching for a place and not just destiny
To be secure in they beds they have made
to turn off the lights with no fear to be laid.
So call to your neighbors
teach patriotism to your kids
Sing of the freedom
and the work that you give,
For tomorrow is coming
and you sure can now bet
that an enemy still lurks
right under our beds.
