Superimposed
Superimposed upon a space,
Upon an empty vacant face.
Eyes that twitch and roll and stare,
Head that shines devoid of hair.
This verse is crazy and so am I,
Try to read it without a sigh.
Superimposed upon a rope,
Upon a hill, upon a slope.
Pigs that fly and birds that talk,
Love to join the elephant walk.
Are you still there, I'm sure I'm not,
I think I'm writing a lot of rot.
Superimposed upon a brick,
Upon a brain that is quite thick.
People paint the possum pink,
I look at them and smile and wink.
Don't you think it's getting worse,
This crazy, mixed up nonsense verse.
Superimposed upon a cloud,
Upon a star that cries out loud.
The moon is made of purple cheese,
That makes me want to sneeze and wheeze.
Well what do you think of my effort so far,
Do you think I have talent, enough for a star?
Superimposed upon a dream,
Upon a cloth without a seam.
The world is crying and so are you,
Nobody knows what they want to do.
My words are empty, my pen is dry,
I'll get a hanky before I cry.
Superimposed upon a chook,
Upon a ducklings dirty look.
The yolk is purple, the shell is soft,
The boy's in the haystack, the girl's in the loft.
Why do I scribble on and on,
It must be because my mind has gone.
Superimposed upon a ring,
Upon a queen, upon a king.
The honey is rusty, the meat is sweet,
I think this snake's good enough to eat.
My head is empty, just look in my ears,
Are you still there, are you still here?
Superimposed upon a rhyme,
That's full of words that march in time.
The words sound good, but make no sense,
I think I'll throw them over the fence.
I've looked all day for thoughts sublime,
But nothing's come except this rhyme!
Joy Weare.
