 Where Silver Tears Do Rust

Letter To A Msgt In Iraq-12 OCT. 2004

A dry thunderstorm hung over the desert sky last night. The thunder bounced off of the mountains and then echoed through the heavens. I lay awake thinking that thunderstorms were meant for lovers; that the lightening that lit the night sky and peeked through my window would be just right. I could catch a glimpse of the longing in your eyes while making love with you. Alas, the dawn arrived none too soon; only to find me alone. I reached for the post card that you sent to me from the desert that holds you and keeps you from me. Not unlike so many times before, I read the words that you wrote upon the post card. Once again, I felt a hunger, a deep longing to hear your voice. I long to hold your heart for an eternity. How selfish I have become during these, my times of need.
With great desire, you accept the photos that I send to you. The body that I shall lay down before you is merely a token compared to the treasures that lay within my heart. Time slips through my fingers like these desert sands that blow across the wind. Each moment spent without you slips from my memory without significance. What a selfish heart I do possess; for I do see and hear the need of others, yet it is the need that you harbor, that I long to feed. I carry emptiness within my heart that can only be filled by feeling the rush of satisfaction pour out from your body to mine. My mind longs to engage you in intelligent, meaningful conversation. My body longs to satisfy and fulfill your intimate desire. My heart longs to hold your heart like the precious jewel that it is. I am a whole woman and I give to you, myself, entirely. I pray that you will allow me to feed my longing through satisfying you and that perhaps, in time, you will learn to love me that I may hold you for an eternity.
