Memories fade in winter.

Skeletal trees raped by winters chill
Seem to weep as the sun thaws the frost
Remembering how once they blossomed
And companionship of creatures lost.

I walk a path among these kindred souls
Leaving footprints to last till next snowfall
They are like memories imprinted to fade
As life ages so too the past becomes less visual.

Though every footstep creates a moment
Without looking back one cannot recognise the present
Though every footstep brings closer a pinnacle
Without looking back one cannot recognise a descent.

As the snow again falls it settles upon the trees
Clouds have again ostracized the sun once more
Returning the fluidity of memory to frozen stillness
I diminish into the melancholy forest forever.
