Heart Of The Matter

So Long

So long, sweet scented summer day,
Of barbecue and Beaujolais,
And time in company of a friend,
The days were long and without end.

With secrets served as with the wine,
And understanding yours and mine,
We talked and put the world to right,
On summer day, and summer night.

The days grow short as winter's chill,
Creeps menacing over yonder hill,
The time has come to hibernate,
And for the summer night, we wait.
