Heart Of The Matter

Ripe For Romance

The night is ripe for romance,
A table set for two,
A candle flickers gently,
Soft lights; and music too.

He's tall and dark and handsome,
The conversation flows,
Trying not to look distracted,
I wonder if he knows.

He tries hard to impress me,
This connoisseur of wine,
He chooses well the vintage,
From a little known French vine.

And like an actress unrehearsed,
Forgotten lines, I fear,
The night is ripe for romance,
And I wonder why I'm here.
