Just A Little Lad…

When he was a small boy,
My son would say to me,
‘I want to be a policeman!'
It's what he wanted to be!

As he grew much older,
As they do, he changed his mind,
Now he wanted to work with dogs,
Because with animals he is kind!

He charged on through his early years,
Then he became '18,'
He knew just what to do!
So he realized his dream!

He joined the Forces, as they do,
And his training was elite!
With only 4 hours of sleep at night,
He was always on his feet!

Now as a mother I worried,
Like, would he be alright?
And could he take the pace?
I couldn't sleep at night!

Well I need not have worried,
He's made his dream come true!
He's in the R.A.F. Police!
And he's training dogs there too!

Yes, he loves the military life,
And yes, I must agree!
It's the best thing that he's ever done!
But I miss that lad you see!
