Heart Of The Matter

Autumn Mist

I got up at my leisure,
And relished in my day,
I listened to some music,
Let my troubles fade away.

I had a walk through quiet glens,
The peace now overwhelms me,
I watched some squirrels scampering,
To the top of a nearby tree.

I'm wrapped against the autumn chill,
Though cold, I'm warm inside,
The squirrels now don their camouflage,
And from my sight they hide.

I leave them to their business,
Content, I make my way,
To the path down to the river,
Where, for a time, I stay.

Alone and unencumbered,
Delighting in the calm,
Mist rising to caress me,
Like natures' healing balm.

I close my eyes, remembering,
The moment we first kissed,
The experience now repeated,
By the swirling, autumn mist.
