Poetic Verses
Compromise
I look at certain friends of mine
So oft surrounding me
And realize there is a way
They think I ought to be.
But knowing they don't really care
Just how I think and feel
Convinces me beyond a doubt
Their friendship isn't real.
Yet, I converse with them at length
Responding right on cue
While in my heart it never seems
The honest thing to do.
Which makes it sweetly tempting then
To simply run away
But if I ever made the break
Who knows what they would say?
So I'll play blind as they pretend
Which is my compromise
With those who choose to call me friend
Though their hearts say otherwise.
So oft surrounding me
And realize there is a way
They think I ought to be.
But knowing they don't really care
Just how I think and feel
Convinces me beyond a doubt
Their friendship isn't real.
Yet, I converse with them at length
Responding right on cue
While in my heart it never seems
The honest thing to do.
Which makes it sweetly tempting then
To simply run away
But if I ever made the break
Who knows what they would say?
So I'll play blind as they pretend
Which is my compromise
With those who choose to call me friend
Though their hearts say otherwise.
