But I PrayedA poem from the novel "The Essence of Poetry II:Gerald's Sophomore Yet Grown Poetrybook" Written by: Gerald L. Ingraham ------------------------------------- When you long for something so bad, You ask not of Santa for your demand; I would like to rekindle what we once had, So I prayed and put it in the Lord's hand. I neither bothered to bow on my knees, Nor stand at bedside asking him please, But I prayed... We have had ourselves ups and downs, And I have had my share of tears and frowns, But I prayed... There were moments where we disagreed, With lonely night when there was not a need, But I prayed... I fathom that you were hurt by a foolish guy, And for that, it is hard to give my love a try, But I prayed... It had been times, I was worried and alone, Because I thought you were well off and gone, But I prayed... I felt when the relationship had gone sappy, Long before you said that you were unhappy, But I prayed... I prayed just a night ago, For God Almighty and above To touch me where I would know How to give you all my love. I prayed very hard and well For the strength to forgive, And have an apology to tell, If I erred for an us to not live. I prayed not that quite long, To become a rather better man, And to stand beside you strong, As I try to be the best I can. I prayed for once with heart, And put the matter in God's hand; Better communication from the start, To listen, care, love, and understand. Asking to heal us with blood of the lamb, For to us eventually see eye to eye; Asking him for you to see me as I am, Not as all men who love to tell a lie. But I prayed... For the mentality to stop my accusations; But I prayed... For the fortitude throughout our situations, But I prayed... This is my ultimate Christmas gift, So ask for it in the name of the Lord; I know he can provide, if he can uplift, To just put us back on one accord. Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
