TO THOSE WHO ARE LOST

To those who are lost
Wherever you may be;
Go back into your heart
Is there love? Is there serenity?

Many times tears welled up in your eyes
You look around . . .
If only there is someone
But rejection and betrayal abound.

Across the dim corner of your room
You lie down shivering in fear;
You try shouting at the top of your voice,
Nobody seems to hear.

Then you stand stiff
Unwilling to love;
You curse, you abhor
You cease to dream . . . what for?

Out of the blue, you close your eyes
Calling out His name for the first time;
A ray of light from nowhere appears . . .
You ponder, could this be a sign?

Through the years, you frown
And now you learn to smile;
Life is good, you realize . . .
The Almighty makes it all worthwhile.

To those who are lost
And now have come home, surmounting the odds;
Look into your heart . . .
There's love, there's serenity, there's God.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

--John Newton (1725-1807)
