  I  Wonder  Why?

The  lowly  fly,  in  summer  so  despised
Yet  in  December,  a  welcome  sight.

                  The  scorching  July  sun,
                   We  take  shelter  from
                Then  we  covet  visits  from,
When  the  long  dark  days  of  winter  come,
                        I  wonder  why?

Birds  in  trees  disturb  our  sleep,
As  the  sun  begins  to  break
                 On  another  summer  day,
                But  with  houses  and  seed
                  We  beckon  them  come,
When  old  man  winter  has  begun,
                       I  wonder  why?

The  fragrance  and  beauty  of  lilac,
                        Rose  and  Iris  too,
                      Seem  to  go  unnoticed
                     In  May,  June  and  July,
                  As  summer  goes  swiftly  by,
                     And  yet  in  February
We  will  pay  a  tidy  sum,
For  a  bouquet,  with  just  a  few  of  them
                             I wonder?

Not  so  much  about  flies  and  birds
                            Sun  and  snow
Flowers  and  seasons  cold  or  fare.

I  wonder  what  my  creator  must  surly  think,
                    When  he  hears  me  complain
About  this,  that  and  most  everything.
