When You An Apple

When you eat a ripe apple
Do you relish that moment
When your teeth break through the skin
And release the sweet juice?

Or do you just eat and toss what's left
Into a bush by the side of the road-
Never eating your way all the way to the core?

I invite you to break into the core
And find the simple little seeds
That hide from your devouring mouth,
Hoping that they might be tossed into fertile soil-

And become a tree.
