Ghosts of winter drift
along snow-white corridors
in a Winter splash of golden sunlight.
Closer and closer they float
as a brown-earthen buck,
with antlers that branch out from
both sides of a slightly rounded head,
stares out into the haloed mist.
Stillness pervades the Arctic air.
Bare branches are held up
like arms to greet and welcome
two vaporous forms...
ethereal beings of light and fog.
Not a person is in sight,
only the wide chocolate eyes
of a deer frozen in snowy-fright.
Snow-covered limbs upon Evergreens
cast shadows, reflect ghost-like images.
