You've got to give them credit. They really are effective. I still remember when they first came out. Their programmed pitches were almost monotone. Considering the aluminum body frames of the constructs, their presentations gave new meaning to the phrase "canned".
Now they are even more "real" than some people, always striking, well-dressed, and never aging. They really did know every ploy in the book. They knew all the languages, all the psychology. It was very hard to say, "No." They never had high blood pressure, got sick, and best of all, no conscience.
It would have been fine, perhaps, if that's where it stopped but you know us humans; if something works, run it into the ground. Bank tellers, store clerks, waiters-all were replaced with constructs. Of course, hover-droids did a lot of the factory work. They followed their program well but they were, by their own nature, limited. The salesbots were among the most knowledgable since they had to use the art of small talk to lower prospects' defenses. Still, I'd face the most persistent and persuasive salsbot over the assassin droids of The Syndicate. That's when I knew technology went too far.
