Sideways

As the Sunsets on a whispery winter
Casting its rays upon the glittering snow
I look sideways, avoiding beauty
why? I do not know

I hear a newborn baby cry
A wailing of a miracle
Yet I look sideways, avoiding his stare
Why? I simply do not care

I look at the sign
Sitting by his feet
‘homeless and hungry, spare a bite to eat'
I look sideways, avoiding a begging hand
Why? You will never understand

I look sideways when you talk to me
I feel your hands touch my face
Grasp me and make me look
Into your loving eyes
With a sideways glance back, now there's a surprise.
