Primal Ruminations
Autumn Rain
Wet surfaces once shiny,
Reflecting only muted undertones
Of a myth that had danced in the sun,
Welcome distortion to the battle cry of ego
Gentle fingers of rain caress the body of thought
That formerly occupied this evergreen forest
Dissolving the corrosive nature that proudly bloomed
Into the translucent, crystalline salts of new possibility
A funeral of ideas wafting through time,
In it's slow, solemn gait of metered protocol
Snuff out the flames that danced brightly,
And return to mother all of her invention
While misty ghosts of declaration
Rise and dissipate,
Echoing faintly the bold expression
That had presumptuously worn the badge of its times
Life is the water of thought and experience
Like the rain, it arrives in fanfare and pandemonium,
Desiring to express meaning for its unfolding,
It sprouts leaves of need and roots of want
Frenzied those two go round and round,
The world a shifting reflection of their desperate fury
Fear of losing the images that chide them on,
As time spins its wheels in the vastness of space
And so life pays homage to the quiet din of agreement
And pools emerge from the chatter that constructed them
A collective testament to the deed that was done,
And submissive depository of what is to come
Life's illusion arrives and then it departs
Only fossils and horizons lay on its tracks
The fire of life burns and fades
But only the tears of heaven keep its secrets
