Poetic-Verses from ATHANASE
Chants monodiques (two little poems)
I love, I love your eyes, Madame, the colour of veronica,
That infinite blue where, like an injured wing,
A tear sometimes arrives to disturb their deep
Etrenal clarity like the sketch of a poor architect!
*****
The bridge which joins and separates us, Madame,
The sweet gulf of time, the words submerged in darkness!
This absolute that haunts hearts prone to excess
And stamps its seal in the depths of our fond glances!
Translated from the French by Norton Hodges
