Poetry From The Heart by Barbara Ann Smith

Buggy Eyes

FOR CHILDREN:

I had this cute turtle
he was sweet as he could be
he loved to have me pick him up
and sit him on my knee.

He'd peek his head out of his shell
roll his buggy eyes all around
he thought I was his sister or mother
because he'd want me to let him down.

He had a multi-colored shell
a cute triangular tail
if I sit him in the rocks
he'd flip around and flail.

His tiny legs and feet
didn't look strong to me
to carry his large shell
around for everyone to see.

He needed some nurturing for awhile
I couldn't stand to watch his plight
I bought him a cage
to make sure he would be all right.
