If I Were A Rap Artist

If I were a rap artist, I would try to do away
with the same old gibberish we hear everyday
I would speak out against all these so-called thugs
talking about the many women that they don't love
The who they shot, and the what they got
the hundred thousand dollar cars, right,I think not
Even if it were true, what good does it do
to have our young kids trying to be like you
No respect for women, no respect for yourself
sold out for the dollars, you need spiritual help
Yeah, if I were a rap artist I would have to confront
these women in the industry who don't know what they want
They say they want love, they say they want respect
but when you listen to their songs all they sing about is sex
Or money, or cars, or what they drink to get drunk
them don't want a real man, they want a real punk
Somewhere, somehow our artist sold out
they keep making music but forgot what it's about
All they see is money the fortune and the fame, it sounds like soul, but its not really the same
Black music was meant to build up and inspire, black artist use to be people you would admire
Now the foolish love it because they make it sound good, but the wise can see what its doing to our neighborhoods
Our kids can't even go to school without the fear that some other kid wants to imitate what they hear
Now you tell me what would you do?  If you were me would you rap about that too?
What about these gangsters these so called G's
In the public eyes their on their feet, in private thier on thier knees
Paranoid that they won't see another day, yet they tell our kids they want to live that way
They entice the stories of a players life, when they leave the studio they go home to wife
Some may have four kids with three different women, they tell our boys thats the position they want to be in
If I were a rap artist, I would have to explain how rap and art aren't always the same
Rap is like poetry and poetry is art, but if its done for the money its not done from the heart
This is something I would get straight its not really music if it does't motivate
It should have meaning, it should be thought out, because it leaves an impression of what were about
You see life is more then jewelry, fast cars or fast girls; true life dosen't start till we leave this world
When its all over and you hear the roll call you might find out you were not living at all
Most rappers today are committing musical genocide killing their own people by robbing them of thier pride
They don't rap sbout our heritage our rich history were we came from or what we were ment to be
Here's a thought, doesn't it seem dumb that you inslave in the name of the music that helped us over come
Our people rose from slavery through song now you use the same gift to steer our people wrong
If I were a rap artist I would try to make you see that your rap is not art there is no way it could be
Art dosen't destroy, art builds and repairs and takes to new heights like an endless flight of stairs
Your rap kills and corrupts the mind, your words are vain, vulgar and unkind
They don't inspire, they don't give hope, your lyrics do more harm than dope
If I were you I would change my ways, and help our youth desire better days
End the negativity, and the false representation and bring back the art of black music to this nation
