I Shall Walk Beside YouForty years have passed and `though we are apart It was only yesterday you lay beneath my heart. The sun shone bright, the sky was blue The day that I gave birth to you. Angels sat beside me and I felt all aglow This perfect little being was mine to love and know Golden hair and big blue eyes, wisdom in your smile I could walk beside you and teach you for a while. I was blessed and as you grew, I watched you test your wings I taught you everything I knew, and you taught me some things. Time went by, you married, I watched my dreams come true As you carved your name in life, just like I hoped you`d do. Each test you passed, each fence you cleared, filled me up with pride I was with you all the way, cheering by your side. So daughter now you`re forty, a new world`s in your hands, Another stage of life begins for you in foreign lands. Each year is just a milestone to guide us as we go Not important in itself, just helps us all to know That life should not be wasted, each moment we must live To count the precious memories, God`s kind enough to give. Count your blessings as you go, be not afraid of age All it is, is time you know, to turn another page. So remember baby mine, look forward with a smile And I shall walk beside you on every single mile. Vote for this poem |
