Poetry From The Heart by Barbara Ann Smith

An Easter Celebration

Every year -- at this time,
I sense a terrible pain,
but then I read in Your words,
You didn't suffer in vain.

Your Father spoke to You--
a trip would be made,
You'd give Your life for others
without any blame.

You heaved the heavy cross
up Calvary's Hill that day,
You never asked for help
and never turned away.

They beat You and spat on You,
crowned You with thorns,
You never flinched or uttered
any angry words.

You proved You where His Son,
on that dreadful day,
Christians rejoiced and praised--
You rose the third day.
