Climb the highest mountain, punch the face of god

Answer Me Why?

Your promises seem to come
With expiration dates.
“In a week, I'll pay you back.”
And nearly a month later…nothing…
After only the first hour, null and void.
But I can only honor you.
In the face of adversity,
As everyone attacks who you are,
I'm forever making excuses for you.
Why must I protect you
While you destroy me?
I'm always standing there
Breathing in the wind,
Trying to deflect your attacks.
I'm drowning in your rage.
Your burn always finds me,
Even under a protective water.
Fire stays not lit underwater, but,
Your kind of fire and lies
Are waterproof.
Or maybe; My fire,
That piece of me that is significant
In making me who I am,
You throw your unholy water on it
To fizzle it out.
Can you look at your daughter,
And answer me why?
