M's Poetry

I Know

*written for my uncle who was wrongfully convicted of a crime. he is free now after spending 10 years in prison. this poem is for you Marty:)

They can sling the mud and hope something sticks
chain me to an electric fence
pull the chair out from under me
kick me when I am down
dirty my pride and integrity

but I know the truth, I know my heart
I know the end isn't what they predict
it's what I do with it
I know what really happened
and maybe one day you will too

see I can sit here calm and take what's coming
endure the pain
that one day I know
sunshine will come and no one but me believes
but that's the power of my strength
I don't need you to help me see
what I know is right, cuz I was right along
you listened to the liars
and without thinking you casted stones

but I know the truth, I know my heart
I know the end isn't what they predict
it's what I do with it
I know what really happened
and maybe one day you will too

I know when that time comes I will forgive you
I know I will look at you and in a way pity you
that you thought the worst before hearing the rest
you condemn me without ever really looking at me
with my lips never spoke a word
before you already decided my fate....
