...For My Dad...

I sat and watched you dad,
My heart was broken in two,
And as your life slipped away,
There was nothing I could do.

All your life you did for us…
Everything in your power,
And then, when you needed us…
We were there in your final hour!

I wanted to take your suffering,
I wanted to take your pain,
I wanted to hold you in my arms,
And make you well again.

But this was not to be,
And I ache and ache inside,
About what happened to my dad!
Many tears I've cried.

Honest, caring, helpful,
Good and kind and true,
All these things spelt ‘Jimmy'
For all these things were you.

What will I do without you dad?
Will I ever be rid of this pain?
I wish with all my heart, dad,
That you were here again!

We'll never know how you suffered,
For you kept it all inside,
Amy big strong dad, my lovely dad,
For you I have much pride.

So now you're there in Heaven,
I know one thing for sure,
St Peter will lead you straight to God,
Behind that pearly door!

Every morn and every night,
I'll raise my eyes above,
And send my prayers Heavenwards,
To a dad I'll always love!

No more tears dad…
No more pain,
I wouldn't wish you back…
To suffer again!
