Musings by The Poet Loriet

Bubble Prayers

Heartbroken tears
run down their cherub faces.
"Grandma's very ill,"
I tell them...
"her heart, her brain, her blood sugars,"
I drone on
trying to make them understand.

Suddenly,
eyes bright with motivation,
Morgan runs to the back deck
and urges her brother to help her
perform a funeral.

They blow bubbles~
irredescent, rainbow-colored,
light-as-air
bubbles...
accompanied by prayers,
laughter and dancing--
their own impromptu ceremony...
and suddenly I realize
this funeral
performed by innocent children
makes sense.

Their unique self-expression
will be a welcoming gift
sent to heaven.

Rainbow bubbles and prayers
will fall upon her
surrounding her in love.
Goodbye old age, aches and pains.

"To be welcomed into heaven," He said,
"we must learn to live like children."
