To The Edge And Back…

You never think about it,
Don't dwell on what you don't know,
It's in the recess of your mind,
For none of us want to go!
But when the edge appears,
And it's looming there in your face,
The fear it invokes in you,
Is a fear you can't chase!

You're on the edge of a nightmare,
And you feel yourself slipping away,
And though we never want to die,
The calmness chases the fears away.
You feel yourself drifting on the sea,
The tide taking you to that place…to peace,
Where calm is paramount and beckoning,
Where pain and fears will cease!

At the edge, the crossroads...!
The choice of life in pain - or death in peace,
For me there was no choice to make,
I didn't want that release!
I came back from the edge,
And I returned from the crossroads end,
Pulled back from the calming waters,
And pain once more became my friend.

I came to within a breath away from death,
And though the calming eased my pain,
Still I fought will every fibre…
To stay in this place once again!
I went to the edge once more,
But for me, this was the worst one,
For the edge was upon me so totally,
I almost lost my fight, but I won!

I would rather be here as I am,
Than be calm in the face of death,
For I didn't want to die and leave…!
So I fought to stay with my last breath!!!!
I stayed, I came close to the edge, but I stayed,
The calming waters ebbed away on the tide,
No matter what my life is like…
I'm forever grateful that I never died!

I look back on this time in fear,
Yes, I am human after all,
And it terrified me so very much…
When I almost got that final call!
I didn't want to go to that other place,
For I have so much to live for,
I have a life so precious,
A love for a family I totally adore!

I had no intention of leaving them,
For without them by my side,
Maybe I wouldn't have fought as hard,
And maybe, just maybe I would have died.
I have this strength inside me,
And sometimes I have to dig deep inside,
Eke it out and drag it to the fore,
Keep it there, and not let it slide…

…Slide away into oblivion,
For I need that strength of mine,
To go forward, onward and upward,
With a life, so good and fine!
So I wasn't going to the edge and over,
I just peeped to the other side of the wall,
And as you can see, I didn't die…
It wasn't my time to get the call!

For me there was no choice to be made,
For I have a life so good and fine,
No-one could ever take my life,
It resides forever with God until the end of time!
My family are the air that I breathe!
I have an abundance of loving from them,
So I was staying right by their side,
I wasn't going to give in…

I wasn't Going To Leave Them!

I Was Going To Stay, Not Fail, But Win!

And I Did, Didn't I…!

The 13th…unlucky for some!

But lucky for me!
