Musings by The Poet Loriet

In It For The Paycheck

How dare you
accuse the innocent?!
Did you know
mouths can fire bullets,
the lethal kind
that destroy people
and shred self-esteem.

You have the power
to make or break lives.

You chose one to break,
a seven year old girl
full of spirit
that's seeping slowly
out of the bullet holes
and spilling on the ground
where it's easier to crush.

All the king's horses
are trying like hell
to fix her.
She's one of a kind,
and she will succeed!!

When she shines,
there won't be
any tributes to you.
You took a wrong turn
when you came to
the fork in the road...

even after
we drew you a map.
