Standing on an empire

Looking out into the horizon of the rising sun
I find it incomprehensible how this ever begun
The slabs of slate and cement
To build something heaven sent
And as I walk past the young girl selling the T-shirt
And the cola cans covered in dust and dirt
My 21st Century trainers, walking on a 3000-year path
I feel my soul being fed culture and let out a joyful laugh
Such tranquil thoughts, to be part of this dynasty
Alone in China, I came to get away from the busy city
And now I find myself alone on a stretch of this Great wall
Standing on an empire, trying to make sense of it all.
