Musings by The Poet Loriet

Morgan's Margay

So proud,
she marches off
carrying her creation--
an old pillow
paint
marker
string
fur
and glittery eyes
a majestic rainforest animal
reconstructed
from the craft box
will spend the day
in her first grade classroom.
She explodes out the door,
head held proud,
ponytail bobbing,
toothy grin...
for she has a presentation to give!
I imagine the plaid school dress
and Barbie backpack
traded in
for a business suit and briefcase.
I'm going to miss this
busy little girl today!
She turns
as if remembering something...
"Mom, I need a hug goodbye!",
then runs down the sidewalk
toward the big yellow bus
that will transport her
to infinity and beyond!
