Musings by The Poet Loriet

Our Love~ Valentines Day 2000

It started with sweet, young innocence
as so many love lives start...
chemistry
sparks
exchanged notes
written hurriedly
on notebook paper.
Stolen kisses in dark hallways or empty classrooms.
My Microbiology lab partner turned love connection.
Tantalizingly forbidden moments after class
in the old station wagon by the light of the moon.
New Years Eve,
we made love for the first time,
drunk on Cold Duck
in front of your fireplace,
blue lightbulbs to create
a calm aura,
massages with suntan oil,
coconutty sweet.
Questions needing answers,
answers we pondered
over bottomless coffee cups
late nights at Steak~N~Shake,
leading to a bent knee proposal
in a horse-drawn carriage.
Your eyes sparkled brighter
than the diamond you
placed on my finger.
The beginning of a fairy tale began.
Your princess sometimes burns dinner
and turns your white underwear pink,
but you still make me feel
like I'm your princess,
and I love you for that!
For making me breakfast in bed,
for encouraging me to be
the best person I can,
believing in my dreams,
squelching my fears.
I love that after all this time
you can still
make me feel like a blushing bride!
I love you for the way
tears glistened in your eyes
when our baby girl
made her star debut,
the way you lovingly and timidly
gave our son his first bath
in the newborn nursery.
I want to grow old together...
my handsome groom, father of our children,
my lover and best friend!
I want to share everything life has to offer,
the laughter and the tears,
but most of all,
I want to look into your sweet brown eyes,
be held in your strong arms,
and just love you...
Forever.
