How do both sides feel? Copyright © 2004 Geraldine McMullan DohertyHow do both sides feel? Gaunt weary faces in trenches rest Uniforms camouflaged under hot skies Are they thinking of enemies with despise in their eyes Or their wives and children or comrades cries Maybe a young enemy's face, not erased Trembling ,frozen before them in great fear Or splatters of blood that flew in the air Or the young man's eyes that shed his last tear Or maybe they are ruthless without a soul No care for anyone just lust to kill Do they laugh and count how many have died And only saddened when the answer's nil It's just another day another battle Man killing man over religion and land At the end of the day I can't see the sense The Earth is one land made by God's hand.
