Emma At The Circus

In the front row Emma sat,
Munching jelly beans,
Smiling at her cousin Tom
And her Auntie Jean.

They were at the circus
As happy as can be,
Waiting for the action
As Auntie sipped her tea.

Then when the music started,
There came the loudest clash.
Poor Emma got such a fright,
She came out in a rash.

The jugglers stepped out twirling
Lovely sparkly sticks.
Poor Emma felt quite dizzy
And felt a little sick.

Emma munched her pop corn
And soon began to grin.
She felt so much better
As she watched the jugglers spin.

A clown all dressed in purple
And with a big red nose,
Pranced and danced in circles
On his very floppy toes.

A lady with a hundred hoops
Twisted round and round.
Her hips kept on swaying
With a funny swishing sound.

Emma licked her ice cream
And gulped her jelly snake.
Tom ate all his licorice
And Auntie ate her cake.

Two ladies with long shapely legs
Were swinging upside down.
Emma watched in amazement
As they both twirled round and round.

Just watching made her queasy,
So she yelled out loud, 'Please stop"
But the ladies kept rotating
Like shiny spinning tops.

So Emma kept on shouting
At all these twists and turns.
Her stomach rumbled loudly,
And her eyes began to burn.

Then Emma jumped onto her seat
With her arms high in the air.
The poor clowns got such a fright,
They simply stopped to stare.

The ladies on the high trapeze,
Wondered what was wrong.
They quickly stopped their swings and swirls
And heard shouting loud and strong.

Auntie Jean was so upset
At Emma's noisy fuss.
She looked at her with glaring eyes,
And said, "Emma that's enough"

Then the ladies started swirling
With the hoops around their hips.
The clowns began to circle
Trying carefully not to slip.

The jugglers went on twirling
Their sparkly coloured sticks.
The ladies on the high trapeze
Twisted back and forth so quick.

Emma's eyes went round and round
And her head began to spin.
So she swirled out from the circus,
Screaming, "I can't stand all this din"

Joy Weare.
