The Ocean

I love to sit and watch
The waves as they roll by,
And see the snowy fleecy clouds
A floating through the sky.

The seagulls are so very swift
When flying through the air.
They neither worry, frown or fret,
They haven't any care.

The graceful yacht glides proudly
Across the ocean blue,
And as I sit here watching,
I wish that I could too.

The seashells lie so peacefully
Upon the great seashore,
And friendly fish swim here and there
Down on the ocean floor.

The fishermen sail home wearily
Across the mighty bay,
As I watch the sun sink in the west
At the closing of the day.

Joy Weare.
30th June, 2005.

I wrote this poem many, many years ago when I was in grade 8.
It was published in a school magazine. I found the magazine while going through a box of bits and pieces. It was the first and only poem I wrote, for many years. I started scribbling again when my first marriage broke up, which was 24 years after this poem. Then when my mum died a little over a year ago I started again and I haven't stopped since. I have a lot of lost time to make up.
