These ones I love
Hannah and Josh
This is a prequel to "The Haunt."
----------------------------
They met one day in the village square.
The lad quite handsome; the maiden fair.
A shy smile on her sweet young face
Made bold lad weak; caused his heart to race.
Hannah the ward of the village mayor.
Josh the son of a tradesman of wares.
Though quite young they fell in love that day.
Much to the village mayor's dismay.
For lass and lad, twas ignorant bliss.
They danced in the field; Josh stole a kiss.
In his heart was naught but good intent-
The village mayor had an evil bent.
Hannah and Josh grew strong in their love.
He gifted her with a coal black dove.
For Josh, a shirt from locks of red hair-
And in the shadows lurked village mayor.
He had groomed this lass to be his wife.
He vowed no other would share her life.
But Hannah and Josh made pledge that night.
Wed they would be at morning's first light.
When fateful day came, screams filled the air.
Josh lay near death in the village square.
Weeping, Hannah knelt down by his side.
The mayor's name whispered before Josh died.
Hannah rent her dress, and shrieked in terror.
Then through her rage saw the village mayor.
The lightening flashed as she lunged at him-
These three struck down by one man's sin.
And so it was on their wedding day
That Hannah and Josh lay in separate graves.
The village mayor rots in unmarked mound,
And a death knell now lies o'er the town.
