Musings by The Poet Loriet
Dear Friend
DEAR FRIEND
Strangers
living separate lives--
friendship barely afloat
in the sea of humanity.
I don't know
when it happened--
when you hugged my heart,
grabbed my soul
and knew my spirit.
There was no single
defining moment,
no finger-pricking ceremony
making us blood sisters--
No, ours was a friendship
nurtured over the span of time
by like experiences,
small talk
and shared laughter, tears--
Giving way to
our deepest secrets.
You know my trials--
and I, yours.
You are like family.
When I pray at night,
I pray for your children
and mine
in the same breath.
Your friendship is awe-some.
Sacrifices you've made for me
bring tears to my eyes.
No words can describe
my amazement
at the God-given blessings
inherent
in a true friend.
When I am old and gray,
I will reflect upon this
chapter of my life
and surely find
the pages detailing
shared memories
to be lined in gold.
Thank you, friend
for giving me the finest
treasure
of all that is you.
